The snow removal law came into effect in October, 2010 and states that all drivers are required to “make all reasonable efforts” to remove ice and snow from vehicles before driving. Failure to do so can result in fines ranging from $25 to $75 in most cases. In the event that your car, van or other business vehicle is involved in an accident after a failure to remove snow, the fine can escalate to between $200 and $1,000.Snow can fly off vehicles at fast speed, causing your own or other vehicles to skid and potentially causing injury to pedestrians and property.

Having a work vehicle involved in an accident can cause immense inconvenience, and be very costly and devastating if people are harmed as a result. With the additional risks that winter brings, be sure to check and update your business insurance for NJ.  Business owners should also distribute details of the New Jersey Snow Removal Law to all staff to ensure they’re aware of their obligations.
