Winter safety for business vehicles

12/21/2011 6:38:25 AM
When your business has work vehicles, it’s important that you and any staff who drive your cars, vans or trucks are aware of safety during the winter months. Snow, sleet, heavy rain and winds can all conspire to make the roads a dangerous place. With the correct commercial auto insurance policy on top of their regular business insurance, NJ business owners should be covered for a range of things that can go wrong in winter - although taking extra precautions is always the wisest choice.

Speed is a major culprit when it comes to slippery roads, so it’s important that all drivers slow down during hazardous weather. When employees feel pressured to meet deadlines, they may be inclined to take ill-advised risks. Let staff know that the safety of people, vehicles and property is your top priority.

Make a point to distribute information about the NJ snow removal law in case anybody is not aware of the details. The law, which came into effect in October, 2010, states that drivers must “make all reasonable efforts” to remove ice and snow from vehicles before driving. A build up of snow on your car or truck can pose a major hazard to you and other vehicles on the road. Fines range from $25 to $75 and if the vehicle is involved in an accident after failing to comply, penalties are usually between $200 and $1,000.

Keeping your staff and other drivers safe should be your main priority. For information on commercial auto and other types of business insurance, NJ
